OUTCOME:
Friendships blossomed under the competitive yet fun atmosphere of Melody Manifesto where poets penned down poems in the given time frame and then the talented singers took to the stage to put a musical twist to the poems.
BRIEF REPORT:
Both the clubs were anticipating the beginning of the event, which started at 6 pm, after all the members had come to attend the same.
Prior to the commencement of the event, the heads of the clubs, Anantha of Nirvana and Shreya of Sahitya had made paper slips of “accents,” and “emotions and rhyme schemes,” respectively. These paper slips were then chosen at random by the respective club members. The Sahitya Club members got paper slips proclaiming emotions such as, “Jealousy,” “Frustrated,” “Romance,” “Sorrow,” “Rhyme Scheme abab,” and more. On the other hand, the Nirvana Club members got paper slips proclaiming accents such as, “British,” “Italian,” “Baby Voice,” “Tamilian,” and so on.
Thereafter, Shreya Ghosh detailed the rules of the competition in clear and simple terms. Once the audience understood what they had to do, the judges, Anantha Keerthy & Shailja Manya, started the timer of 30 minutes.
In this duration, the poets/authors devoted their time in writing and creative talent in penning down words that matched with their chosen paper slips. For example, Shreya got the chit “Jealousy,” and she wrote a poem on Greek Mythology’s Hephaestus; Almas Uddin Mallick got the chit “Rhyme Scheme abab,” and he wrote a cute & sweet poem with a shocking plot twist towards the end of it.
Once each poet/author was done with their written pieces, Anantha allotted the singers to each member of Sahitya at random. This led to a comedic mash-up of emotions & accents, such as Sangramjeet’s “British” accent for Vinit’s poem on “Drama.” Another great unintended duo was Abhinav Sarma’s “Romance,” emotion paired up with Joona’s “Tamilian” accent.
Each singer got 15 minutes to acquaint themselves with their teammate’s poem and acclimate themselves to singing it in their designated accents. Once this time period was over, came the final part: the singers took to the stage and belted their hearts out to the amusement of the audience.
Once all the performances were done, Anantha and Shailja, the judges, took a few minutes to decide on the winners – one from the writer’s side, one from the singer’s side. During this time the participants congratulated each other on their creativity and talents.
The winners, when announced, were of no shock to the audience, as it was the best possible choice: Almas from the writer’s side, for his poem entitled, “Why Did I Fell For Your Smile,” which was sung by Advika A. in her “Baby” Accent.
And thus, the event came to an end with a round of applause for both the winners who were basking in the attention.
A reel for the event has also been uploaded on the Instagram handles of both the clubs: Sahitya & Nirvana.
