The ten-member team of the Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies (SCMS) participated in the prestigious World Model United Nations hosted by Techfest at IIT Bombay on the 18th and 19th of December 2024. This two-day event provided an unparalleled platform for students to engage with pressing global issues, sharpen their analytical abilities, and showcase their diplomatic finesse. Representing a diverse range of cultural, academic, and personal backgrounds, the team displayed remarkable synergy as they immersed themselves in a dynamic and intellectually stimulating environment.
The conference featured committees such as the Lok Sabha, International Press in Journalism and Photography, and HSPECPOL, each offering unique insights into international and national policy frameworks. The Lok Sabha committee witnessed intense deliberations on contemporary legislative issues in India, fostering an appreciation for the intricacies of parliamentary procedures. Meanwhile, the International Press encouraged creative expression and investigative rigor, challenging participants to capture the essence of the conference through journalism and photography. The HSPECPOL committee explored historical and political complexities, allowing delegates to engage deeply with the agenda, "Impact of Foreign Aid on African Sovereignty in the 1970s." This historical context pushed delegates to think critically about sovereignty, foreign intervention, and long-term sustainability.
Throughout the event, delegates participated in structured moderated caucuses, unmoderated sessions, and networking breaks, each designed to enhance their research, teamwork, and public speaking skills. The pride within our team grew as one of our members, Siri Balaji, received an honourable mention in International Press Journalism, inspiring us to aim higher and persevere without giving up.
