Event Name: Opening Lines

Objective:

1. To conduct a writing exercise for the members of the club on 26th December, 2024.
2. To create an environment of healthy constructive criticism.
3. To encourage the members of Sahitya to unleash their imagination and writing skills.

Outcomes:

1. The members will experience an interesting and interactive literary event.
2. The activity will showcase the writing skills of everyone.

Brief:

Sahitya held its extraordinary event titled, "Opening Lines," aimed at inspiring creativity and enhancing writing skills by engaging participants in drafting and critiquing the first chapter of their novels. This transformative event is held on 26th of December and it took place in the Room No. 105 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.

Participants were informed in advance about the task of writing the first chapter of their novels and clear guidelines were provided, including a minimum word count of 1000 words and an emphasis on originality and creative storytelling. Participants were encouraged to brainstorm and develop a basic plot outline to guide their writing. This segment resonated with the students inspiring them to think deeply about their own aspirations, future paths, and, also motivated them.

Each and every participant dedicated time prior to the activity to draft the first chapter of their novel. This phase allowed members to explore their creativity, develop characters, and establish the tone and setting of their stories. Participants were given ample time to reflect and write, creating an atmosphere filled with creativity, introspection and anticipation, as students poured their hopes, dreams, and reflections onto the pages, crafting heartfelt messages to their future selves.

During the activity, digital copies of each chapter were shared among all participants. Each participant read their peer’s chapters attentively and provided detailed feedback, focusing on aspects such as: plot coherence, character development, writing style, language, flow, and provided valuable suggestions for their improvement. After reviewing all chapters, participants gathered to share their observations. The feedback was constructive and supportive, aimed at helping writers refine their chapters. Discussions were interactive, with participants explaining the reasoning behind their feedback and writers clarifying their creative choices.

The event concluded with a club photo, marking the successful culmination of "Opening Lines.” The session encouraged participants to reflect on their own writing based on the feedback received and also improved their writing techniques.
