Objective:
Outcome:
The 52 photographs, curated by The Union Ministry of Culture, served as an important lesson in history. The students gathered near the display and educated themselves with the harsh reality our people faced during the Partition. The millions who suffered for our freedom will never be forgotten.
Brief Report:
Freedom is a fundamental right. It is the most humane, most intrinsic right – yet, for India to gain freedom, for it to be “The Golden Bird,” once again, there was a steep price: the blood, sweat, and tears of our own people.
Everything has a price, and perhaps this was Freedom’s. Millions had to suffer, so that the generations to come would never have to. On 15 th August, 1947, India raised its flag into the air – and the flag has been flying high ever since, because of those who came before us. Because of the people who faced fear and violence, who braved all the horrors of the British rule and that of the Partition; India’s flag waves high and higher as each year goes by, because decades ago our ancestors had their bloods forced out of them, sucked into the mud. Now, that mud is rich with the vibrancy of trees and life, roots of our freedom planted by the millions of Heroes that came before us.
It is imperative that we, Indians, understand the sacrifice. That we pay our respect to those who fell for us to rise. In an initiative to further this cause, Sri Narendra Modi, India’s Prime Minister, announced in 2021 that moving forward every year’s 14 th August would be observed as, “Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.”
SCMS-H observed the day with utmost sensitivity and sincerity. Off to the mess is a long stretch wall, and this served as the centre of display, where the 52 curated photographs were put. The students gathered around in the evening to observe the wall; to learn about those who persisted yet perished in the chaos of the Partition. The scars of these losses haven’t yet scabbed over, and it is our duty, as citizens of India, to understand and sympathize. To be aware of our own history. To know that what we have today – our freedom, our rights – is because there were people before us who did not have them.
The students of SCMS-H seemed to understand, as they gathered around the wall, few students paid their respects and gratitude by singing the patriotic songs and gave speech on freedom fighters and Independence Day. Total 174 students and 13 Teaching and Non-Teaching members visited the exhibition and witnessed the sacrifices of our freedom fighters The programme concluded with National Anthem.
