“Market Me If You Can” - Branding Through Characters

OBJECTIVES:

The “Market Me If You Can - Branding Through Characters” activity was designed to stimulate creative and strategic marketing thinking by allowing students to conceptualize brands through fictional characters. The objective was to:

  • Encourage participants to apply marketing concepts in an innovative, character-driven context.
  • Enhance storytelling, emotional branding, and creative thinking skills.
  • Promote strategic alignment between character traits and brand positioning.
  • Provide a platform for students to showcase originality, marketing insight, and presentation skills.
ACTIVITY OVERVIEW:

Participants competed in teams of two and were given a chit containing the name of a popular fictional character. Each character represented a unique personality, emotional depth, and worldview.

Teams were required to imagine that the character was launching a personal brand, product, or service and design a marketing campaign aligned with the character's traits.

During the preparation phase, participants worked on:

  • Brand / Product / Service Concept
  • Brand Story aligned with the character
  • Tagline
  • Key Marketing Channels (social media, influencers, offline promotions, etc.)
  • Basic Segmentation and Positioning logic

Each team was given 30 minutes for preparation, followed by a 1.5-minute presentation, which had to be delivered in character. Visual aids such as ad mock-ups or reel concepts were allowed.

OUTCOME:
  • Enhanced Creativity: Participants showcased innovative thinking by translating fictional personalities into compelling brand identities.
  • Practical Marketing Application: Students applied core marketing concepts such as segmentation, targeting, positioning, and branding in a realistic scenario.
  • Improved Communication Skills: Presentations helped students build confidence, storytelling ability, and clarity of thought.
  • Active Participation: The event received enthusiastic participation, with teams engaging actively and creatively under time constraints.
BRIEF REPORT:

The “Market Me If You Can - Branding Through Characters” event organized by The Marketing Club, SCMS Hyderabad, proved to be an engaging and intellectually stimulating activity. Participants demonstrated strong creative and strategic skills while designing character-aligned brands, catchy taglines, and effective marketing strategies.

The event successfully blended creativity with marketing fundamentals, offering students a practical insight into real-world brand building while keeping the experience interactive and enjoyable.
