A Community Health Camp was organized at Gramam, Edulapally, RR District through the collaborative efforts of Ikshana (ISR Club) of SCMS and Shakti of SIBM, in association with Srikara Hospitals and Lions Club East Hyderabad. The initiative was aligned with key sustainable development priorities, particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, aiming to improve access to healthcare services and promote preventive health awareness in rural communities.
A dedicated team of student volunteers actively conducted house-to-house awareness campaigns prior to the camp, informing villagers about the initiative and encouraging maximum participation. This outreach played a crucial role in ensuring community engagement and inclusivity.
The camp offered a wide range of medical services, including general consultations, dental check-ups, orthopedic consultations, BMI assessments, eye examinations, blood sugar tests, blood pressure screenings, and ECG tests for individuals requiring advanced evaluation. These services enabled villagers to gain a better understanding of their health conditions and receive professional medical advice, thereby promoting early diagnosis and preventive care in line with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.
In addition to consultations, free medicines were distributed to patients, and spectacles were provided at subsidized prices to support individuals with vision-related issues, enhancing accessibility and affordability of healthcare services. Despite minor challenges such as temporary electricity disruptions, the student volunteers efficiently managed the situation, ensuring the smooth functioning of the camp. Arrangements for refreshments further contributed to the comfort and well-being of the attendees.
Overall, the health camp was highly successful in delivering essential healthcare services to the rural population while simultaneously raising awareness about preventive healthcare practices. The initiative not only benefited the local community but also provided students with valuable experiential learning in community engagement, teamwork, and social responsibility. The collaboration between institutions, healthcare providers, and volunteers exemplified the importance of partnerships in achieving sustainable development goals.
