BRIEF REPORT:

The Finance Club of SCMS Hyderabad successfully organized Monopoly: Market Edition, an innovative finance-based board game activity, on 22nd December 2025. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, turning a familiar childhood game into a powerful simulation of real-world financial decision-making.

Unlike traditional Monopoly, this edition introduced the Market as an active player, making the game dynamic and un predictable. The game began with a standard Monopoly setup, where teams received fixed starting capital and selected their tokens. Club members took on the roles of Banker and Market Moderator, ensuring smooth execution and fair play.

As the game progressed, excitement filled the room with every dice roll. Teams celebrated acquiring properties, negotiated strategies, and groaned collectively when rent payments drained their cash balances. At regular intervals, the Market Moderator introduced Market Cards, representing scenarios such as market booms, inflation, slowdowns, and government relief. These events affected all teams equally, forcing participants to rethink strategies on the spot.

Taxation was introduced in a simplified yet impactful manner. Property-owning teams were required to pay a fixed Property Tax after designated rounds, highlighting how ownership comes with responsibility.

The competition was structured into two rounds. The first round consisted of multiple tables running simultaneously, with players tracking their cash, property holdings, and overall financial position. Winners from each table advanced to the final round, where challenges became more intense with higher emergency costs and inflation adjustments. The final table witnessed intense competition, strategic negotiations, and calculated risks as teams aimed to maximise their net worth before time ran out.

The classroom buzzed with laughter, suspense, and moments of realisation. Some teams regretted aggressive property purchases when market conditions turned unfavourable, while others benefitted from cautious planning and strong cash reserves. Students experienced first-hand how unpredictable markets can be and how adaptability often matters more than dominance.

Participants walked away not only entertained but also more financially aware, understanding that success depends on planning, flexibility, and informed choices rather than luck alone.
